Let's start with a caveat. We're a retail setup based in Bombay, so our views are based on the climatic conditions of Bombay.
Solid hardwood flooring is simple. No science, just solid wood. Boards of solid wood are fitted onto the floor using tongue-and-groove. It is beautiful. It feels great under your feet.
But it comes with a problem. Solid wood swells in damp conditions and shrinks in dry ones. It's used mostly in cities with constant atmosphere (not Bombay).
Engineered flooring, on the other hand, is elegant science. It's composed of multiple layers of wood, held together at right angles to avoid swelling and shrinking. Only the top layer is the wood you see and experience. It's essentially solid wood flooring minus it's disadvantages.
It's manufactured in multiple species and finishes. It's sold by most brands (us too) and you will be spoilt for choice. Happy shopping!
